About Chelmorton Parish council
This page provides details about Chelmorton Parish Council, its members and its meetings – including the authority’s Annual Parish Meeting. The website also contains details of council meeting agendas and minutes, as well as contact details for each parish councilor.
The Parish Council is made up of a total of five Councillors who are elected by the parish to serve for a four year term. All members have equal voting rights on matters across the whole Parish with the exception of the Chair of the meeting who has an additional casting vote in the event of a tie. The Chair and Vice-Chair are elected by members at the Annual Meeting of the Parish Council each May.
Meetings
Meetings take place bi-monthly in the War Memorial Institute, Main Street commencing at 7:30pm in the months of January, March, May, July, September and November and usually on the 2nd Tuesday of the month.
Annual Parish Council Meeting
This meeting elects the chair and vice-chair for the year and is held in May
Annual Parish Meeting
A meeting of parishioners held in March where any issue they wish may be raised. It is chaired by the Parish Council Chairman who gives a report on council’s decisions and actions during the previous year and then opens the meeting to discuss any matter raised by a parishioner.
Assets, activities and responsibilities
Council is responsible for maintaining several small historical areas and a children’s playground as well as renting out a small 3 plot allotment garden. It has installed a defibrillator cabinet on the Village Institute wall.
The Precept – the local tax on parishioners – is set at the November meeting. Requests for donations made by local community groups are also considered at that meeting.
The Parish Council also receives income from its Parish Council-run allotments, rent of Bull Hay and a small grant from DDDC towards mowing.
The Council is responsible for other village assets comprising the Pound, Illy Willy, The Green with its Listed stone Phone Box, Troughs on Main Street, Well Dressing Corner and several benches throughout the parish, and is a conduit for a DDDC annual grant to the Parochial Church Council for maintenance of the Churchyard. It leases the small field adjacent to the churchyard from the Diocese of Derby to provide and maintain an area for the infant and junior play equipment it has bought for the village. It also provides and maintains the grit bins outside the Church and at the crossroads. It provides and maintains the defibrillator on the Institute Wall.
